Experience
My journey with dog training began about 8-9 years ago when I began fostering dogs. I have a background in horse training and training the foster dogs was a natural inclination for me. I found it greatly rewarding to take in a usually completely untrained dog and spend the next few weeks to a month quickly teaching it house manners, crate training, potty training, how to properly interact with children/guests/other pets. I enjoyed setting the dogs up for success in their new homes by teaching them to be well behaved citizens. I fostered many dogs, including a couple litters, over the course of a few years.
I then began taking obedience classes with my newly adopted dog, Stax. I again found a lot of parallels to horse training in dog obedience training. This led me to teach classes and assist with a drop and train program at this facility where we worked with dogs that needed a little extra work in modifying their unwanted behaviors and were dropped off for a full day of training by their owners.
Working at this training facility was very inspiring for me and I began providing in home consults and taking board and train dogs locally. I thoroughly enjoy helping families learn easy concepts that begin to quickly modify their dog's unwanted behaviors and redirect them down a new path toward a peaceful home with a dog.
I also currently train with a local Mondioring club with my Malinois, Bender. Mondioring is a bitesport and also requires some of the highest levels of obedience that I have ever witnessed. This sport is a fun hobby for me, but more importantly it is a way to constantly push me out of my comfort zone and to be coached and continue to expand my dog training skills.
I look forward to helping your family and your dog reach the goals that you have for your home dynamic!
